In 2009, our construction company served as the General Contractor for the interior fit-out of a significant vertical expansion at SUNY Upstate Medical University’s University Hospital in Syracuse, NY. This project involved adding six stories atop the existing five-story East Wing, culminating in a 250,000-square-foot enhancement to the facility. A focal point of this expansion was the Golisano Children’s Hospital, occupying the 11th and 12th floors. The hospital features a distinctive “Tree House” entrance, designed to create a welcoming and child-friendly environment.
Our comprehensive scope of work included:
- Vertical Transportation: Installation of ten new elevators to improve patient and staff mobility.
- Interior Construction: Erection of interior metal studs, application of drywall, and installation of acoustical ceilings to create functional and comfortable spaces.
- Carpentry and Finishes: Fitting of interior doors, frames, hardware, aluminum sliding doors, and storefronts, along with interior glazing to enhance aesthetics and functionality.
- Surface Treatments: Execution of painting and wall coverings to promote a healing environment.
- Flooring: Laying of various flooring materials, including ceramic tile, to ensure durability and ease of maintenance.
- Millwork: Construction of casework to meet specific storage and operational needs.
- Fixtures and Signage: Installation of toilet accessories and interior signage to facilitate wayfinding and convenience.
A critical aspect of this project was executing all construction activities above an operational hospital, necessitating meticulous planning and coordination to minimize disruptions to ongoing medical services. This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering complex healthcare construction solutions that prioritize patient experience and operational efficiency.
