Fahs Construction Group served as the General Contractor for the state-of-the-art SUNY Upstate Health and Wellness Center, a six-story outpatient medical care facility designed to ease demand on the upstate New York emergency room system. This innovative healthcare facility features comprehensive radiology capabilities, including MRI, CAT scan, and X-ray, and provides specialized care in pediatrics, adult medicine, geriatrics, and oncology. Additional on-site services include a dental suite and pharmacy, making this facility a full-service healthcare hub.
Exterior Work
The exterior scope of this medical facility construction project included comprehensive utility installations for stormwater, sanitary lines, water, and natural gas. Our team also incorporated concrete planters with built-in wood benches, a pavered plaza area, and extensive landscaping to create a welcoming, functional environment.
Building Structure
Constructed with a robust structural steel frame, this healthcare center features an exterior clad with a modern curtain wall system, metal panels, windows, and masonry, along with a durable EPDM roof.
Interior Construction
The facility’s interior includes high-quality finishes such as metal studs, drywall, acoustical ceilings, VCT flooring, and ceramic tile. Custom millwork throughout enhances the patient experience, with features including intake desks, greeting areas, patient room cabinets, and nurse stations.
Mechanical Systems
Mechanical installations include advanced HVAC systems with chillers, boilers, air handling units, and heat exchangers, plus medical-grade plumbing with domestic hot and cold water, booster pumps, water heaters, and dedicated medical gas piping.
Electrical and Fire Protection
Our team managed the installation of cutting-edge electrical systems, including new switchgear, distribution panels, telecommunications infrastructure, and an emergency generator with automatic transfer switches to ensure uninterrupted operation. Fire protection was carefully designed, with a complete wet system for patient safety and a specialized dry system for electrical rooms.
