Project Overview:
Fahs Construction Group completed a full interior fit-out for a new Starbucks location within SUNY Oneonta’s Hunt Union facility. This renovation was part of a broader initiative to enhance campus dining options and student amenities.

Scope of Work:
Interior Fit-Out: Comprehensive interior construction including wall finishes, custom casework, furniture and equipment installation.
Utility Integration: Installation of utility connections, floor patching, and wall base finishes to ensure seamless functionality and aesthetics.

Project Challenges & Solutions:
Maintaining Service Continuity: To avoid disruption of coffee services during construction, Starbucks operations were temporarily relocated to the Red Dragon Outfitters building. This strategic move ensured uninterrupted service for students and staff.
Strict Timeline Adherence: Despite the complexity of the renovation, the project was completed on schedule by mid-2024, aligning with SUNY Oneonta’s operational calendar.

Fahs Construction Group partnered with SUNY Oneonta to construct a new ADA-compliant elevator addition at Sherman Hall, transforming the building into the campus’s swing space in preparation for forming the upcoming Netzer Hall renovation. The project enhances accesthe accessibility, efficiency, and long-term flexibility for campus operations.

Scope of Work:

Complete addition including foundations, masonry, structural framing, roofing, and full interior fit-out. Work encompassed the elevator system, concrete, flooring, MEP systems, fire-stopping, expansion joints, and building envelope tie-ins.

Results:

The finished addition provides full ADA access, supports seamless swing-space use during renovations, and delivers lasting value through durable materials, efficient systems, and thoughtful integration with the existing facility. The project reinforces Fahs Construction Group’s reputation for responsive management and dependable results in higher-education construction.

Fahs Construction Group served as General Contractor for this multi-phase capital improvement program for the Norwich Central School District, delivering modernized learning environments and facility upgrades across multiple campuses. Work was executed in occupied buildings, requiring careful sequencing, trade coordination, and strict safety controls.

Scope of Work:

• Renovation of district offices, high school library, and Home &
  Careers classrooms
• Upgrades to high school agricultural and technical labs, and boys’ and girls’ locker rooms
• Demolition and reconfiguration of middle school classrooms, main office, select high school science labs, and art rooms
• Corridor painting and abatement at Perry Brown Elementary
• Oversight of all subcontractor trades and phased construction to maintain schedule, safety, and quality

Fahs Construction Group served as the General Contractor for the renovation of three science laboratories in SUNY Oneonta’s Janet R. Perna Science Building. The work was executed over a compressed summer window, requiring careful coordination to ensure completion before the start of the fall semester. The project delivered modernized labs that better support instruction for biology and earth science programs, giving students and faculty fully updated spaces on day one of classes.

Scope of Work

• Installation of new laboratory casework and work surfaces
• Replacement of flooring and application of new paint finishes
• Modifications to existing ductwork to improve air distribution
• Electrical system upgrades, including lighting and device relocations
• Integration with ongoing building-wide HVAC improvements

Challenges Solved | Results

• Tight schedule: With only the summer break available, our team sequenced trades with precision and kept the project on track despite design clarifications that arose midstream
• Design adjustments: As existing conditions were uncovered, we collaborated with the design team and the University to resolve issues quickly without impacting delivery.
• Successful outcome: The labs were turned over on time, allowing SUNY Oneonta to hold classes in the renovated spaces at the start of the semester. The result is a safer, morefunctional and modern learning environment for students and faculty.

Construction of a single/three-floor addition to the existing SUNY Cortland New School of Education to include Integrated Child Care; renovations to two floors of the existing building; and sitework utilities and improvements. Work includes concrete foundations, structural steel, brick, cast stone, metal studs, drywall, doors, frames, hardware, aluminum windows and curtainwall, metal panels, elevators, casework, flooring, ceramic tile, painting, plumbing, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, electrical, fire protection, asbestos abatement, and playground equipment.

This project is located on the SUNY Oneonta Campus and transformed the building into a state-of-the-art center for learning, meeting, and innovation. The renovation is SUNY Oneonta’s first major investment in reducing its carbon footprint using 39 geothermal wells housed beneath the parking lot. The extensive project which began in 2021 renovated the original building constructed in 1958. The 41,000 square foot project included classrooms, offices and meeting spaces for students, staff, and alumni. Highlights include a stock trading simulation room, a student entrepreneurial space, small group rooms, lounge study areas and a large conference room.

Work included asbestos abatement and demolition, new electrical and mechanical systems, drywall, metal studs, doors, frames and hardware, acoustical ceilings, painting, new flooring, and a new elevator. Exterior improvements included new sight lighting, sidewalks, parking lot, and vehicle charging stations.

As of February 28, 2025 SUNY Oneonta’s Alumni Hall earned LEED Platinum certification – the highest level of recognition award by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
